Senator Sunday Karimi, representing Kogi West Senatorial District, has strongly condemned the recent surge of insecurity and violence in Iluke-Bunu community, describing Wednesday’s invasion that claimed the lives of a Vice Principal and two other residents as “unfortunate and unacceptable”.

The Senator who praised the efforts of security agencies, urged them to do more.

He expressed displeasure over the attack in which bandits murdered the Vice Principal of Government Secondary School, Iluke-Bunu, and abducted some students after unleashing terror on the community. He urged security agencies to rise to the occasion and restore peace.

Sen. Karimi lamented that the relentless attacks have disrupted the peace and livelihoods of residents not only in Iluke-Bunu but across other communities in Kogi West now under severe threat.

According to him, the recent invasion represents another attempt by criminals to instill fear in citizens.

The lawmaker noted that in recent weeks, peaceful neighborhoods in Kogi West, particularly among the Okun people, have witnessed a disturbing rise in armed robberies, kidnappings and destruction of property. He called on all stakeholders to be at alert to stem the ugly tide, which he said is alien to the culture of the people.

“The relentless cycle of attacks has disrupted daily business activities, leaving families living in constant fear and crippling socio-economic activities,” Sen. Karimi said. “However, I assure our people that this is the last kick of a dying horse. The end of these criminal activities is near.”

The Senator assured communities in Kogi West of government’s determination to fish out, arrest, prosecute and bring to book all criminals disrupting the once peaceful lives of the people.

He called for enhanced security arrangements, greater accountability, and stronger collaboration between citizens and security agencies.

Sen. Karimi added that the attack on Iluke-Bunu will mark the end of activities causing pain to the people, and reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to sustain peace and safety for all citizens.

The Senator mourned the dead, sympathized with their families, prayed for quick recovery of the injured and the safe return of those in captivity. He said he will continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of the people of Kogi West.
