Scores Injured as Tijanniya, Izala Sects Clash Over Okene Central Mosque Leadership

Jummat service was disrupted at the Okene Central Mosque as the leadership tussle between Tijanniya, and Izala sects degenerated into serious clash leaving scores injured.

This clash is coming barely three months after the last security breach witnessed in the Mosque that warranted reading of the riot act by the state government.

Although details no the cause of the crisis are hazy at the time of filing this report, sources confirmed to our correspondent that it started at the time when the Imam of the Mosque arrived.

Confirming the sad development in a statement, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security Matters in charge of Okene Local Government, Engr. Abdulrazaq Muhammad said though no arrest has been made, investigation into the cause of the clash is already on.

“The security agencies rose up to the task and professionally ensured the lives of the congregants in the mosque were secured. They are on top of the situation and relative peace has been restored,” he assured. 

The council boss said he has ordered a joint security patrol within Okene metropolis, and placed the Mosque under surveillance. 

He assured the people to go about their normal business while they look forward to the outcome of the investigation.
