The last may not have been heard about failed attempt to recall Senator Dino Melaye of Kogi West from the National Assembly.

The recall verification exercise that held across Kogi West senatorial district on Saturday, 28th April witnessed low turnout of electorates and was largely peaceful. However, a former secondary school principal, Mr. Tomayo Kanjuni was allegedly beaten and detained by policemen on the instructions of Hon. Taufiq Isa, the Administrator of Ijumu local government area and Chairman of Kogi State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON).

Kanjuni reportedly stood firm against the recall process in his Okoro Gbede polling unit, insisting on free and fair process.

A credible source informed this reporter that Kanjuni was reported to the ALGON boss who ordered that he be dealt with. Kanjuni, according to our source, was later released by the police.

Few days ago, weeks after the sad episode, Kanjuni’s relative visited Okoro Gbede and decided to know why Taufiq dealt with his family member. The relative, an Army Captain went to Naomi Motel where Taufiq usually relax with his acolytes. The Army captain, who was not in uniform, approached Taufiq and asked why his relative was beaten and detained but the ALGON chairman allegedly responded by slapping the military officer.

The angry Army captain left the scene but returned with his aides who reportedly beat Taufiq to a pulp, ordered him to roll on the floor and was fed with wet grass.

According to the source, Taufiq was rushed to a clinic in Lokoja for treatment.

When contacted by Kogireports.com, the Ijumu Administrator’s media aide, Othman Hamidu denied that the council boss was beaten.

Hamidu insisted that the incidents were mere wishful thinking of rumor peddlers.

“None of the two incidents happened anywhere. What is giving them headache is Hon. Taufiq Isa’s political rise. Hon. Taufiq Isa is hale and strong and as a matter of fact he will be attending Odokoro/Araromi APC meeting today,” he said.
