Kogi Government has reaffirmed its commitment to ensure the diversification of the state`s economy by creating opportunities in agriculture across the state.
Mr Kingsley Fanwo, the Director-General, Media and Publicity to the state governor stated this when he visited the Osara Green House on Saturday at Osara in Adavi Local Government Area of Kogi.
According to him, Kogi under the governorship of Alh Yahaya Bello, is focusing on production rather than consumption.
He noted that agriculture was the way out of the economic meltdown ravaging many states of the federation.
“Kogi is taking the lead by moving away from over reliance on white collar jobs to green collar jobs, we are creating a green corridor of amazing opportunities in the agricultural sector.
“Kogi youths are showing their readiness to lead our economic renaissance through agriculture with lots of benefits available at the Osara Green House Project,“ he said.
He added that several youths in the state were presently growing vegetables thus staying out of crime.
He further added that the possibility to grow vegetables all year round was an amazing economic empowerment with steady market, income and economy.
Fanwo said the state could become the country`s vegetable hub, supplying all the geo-political zones with its Green Houses initiative.
He added that already, there were of off-takers in the state, ready to buy off the vegetables and other farm produce directly from the farms without experiencing the stress of the middlemen.
Fanwo said that a good number of youths in the state were understudying the Osara Model and the Youth Agric Cooperatives in the production of cassava and cashew.
“Kogi is fast becoming the vegetable state; with our water bodies, good soil and energetic youth, coupled with the state of the art of agricultural machineries at the disposal of the farmers.
“People from other parts of the country will not need to get to Kano before getting vegetables.
“Kogi deserves the best, we have taken guns away from our youths and have given them a platform to prosper and be rich through productivity, we are the emerging food basket of the nation.”
