Otunba Adeniyi Olayemi, popularly known as So’Mi Edumare, has expressed shock and sadness over the death of former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, who died on Sunday in London, United Kingdom, at the age of 77.
Idris, fondly called “Ibro”, governed Kogi State from 2003 to 2012.
In a condolence message issued on Sunday, Olayemi described the late former governor’s death as “a monumental loss” not only to his family and the Igala Kingdom, but also to Kogi State and Nigeria at large.
He described the deceased as a distinguished statesman, a successful entrepreneur, a bridge-builder and a father figure who served the state with passion and dedication.
Olayemi noted that before venturing into politics, Idris built a business empire through Ibro Trading Company, Ibro Hotels and other ventures, and later brought the same entrepreneurial spirit to governance.
“His inclusive leadership, infrastructural strides and human capital development remain indelible in the annals of our state,” he said.
He added that Kogi had lost a political colossus, a philanthropist of uncommon generosity and a leader “whose counsel and experience we will sorely miss.”
On behalf of his family and political associates, Olayemi extended condolences to the immediate family of the deceased, the Idris family of Idah, the people of Kogi East, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, the government and people of Kogi State, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) family.
He prayed that Almighty Allah (SWT) would forgive the late former governor’s shortcomings, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus and give his family the fortitude to bear the loss.
“Adieu, Waali! Your legacy endures,” Olayemi said.
