The Kogi State Executive Council of the Organised Labour (SEC) has passed a vote of confidence on Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, citing what it described as an impressive performance in office and pledging its backing for his second-term ambition.
The endorsement came at a meeting of the Council held on Wednesday at the Comrade Onuh Edoka Labour House in Lokoja, where labour leaders said the Governor has demonstrated humane leadership, a passion for governance and particular attention to workers’ welfare.
According to the labour leaders, Governor Ododo has consistently shown capacity in governance, approaching the task differently and positively in ways that have earned wide admiration.
The SEC, in a communiqué issued after the session, described the Governor as a leader with “the milk of human kindness,” stating that the organised labour movement had no option but to throw its weight behind his re-election bid.
Among the specific gestures cited by the Council were the Governor’s donation of three buses to organised labour, alongside his promise of massive recruitment and promotions in the state’s workforce, which the labour body described as sterling examples of his leadership.
“We are happy that we have Ododo as our Governor, he is God sent and we as Labour leaders are delighted that he has not disappointed us, viewing from his welfare programmes and policies concerning the workers,” the statement read in part.
Speaking separately at the session, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the state, Comrade Gabriel Amari; his Trade Union Congress (TUC) counterpart, Sule Tijani Ahmed; and the Chairman of the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council (JNC), Comrade Olusegun Alemeru, all praised the Governor’s virtues and committed to supporting his re-election.
Other speakers at the session commended the present administration for its efforts in both human capital and infrastructural development, while also appealing to the Governor to address other outstanding areas of need affecting workers in the state.
The SEC-in-Session further acknowledged the contributions of the Special Adviser on Labour Matters, Comrade Onuh Edoka, whose ideas and innovations, the Council noted, have helped shape the administration’s approach to governance as it relates to workers in Kogi State.
