The Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), Kogi State Chapter, has congratulated Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and the people of Kogi State as the state marks 35 years since its creation on August 27, 1991.
In a statement signed by the union’s State Chairman, Comrade Sunday Emejeh, ASUSS extended congratulations to the Governor, Deputy Governor, members of the State Executive Council, the leadership of the State House of Assembly, traditional rulers, workers, students, the business community, and residents across the state, describing the anniversary as a “joyous occasion” for the Confluence State.
The union described Kogi as occupying a strategic position within the Nigerian federation, noting the state’s identity as the meeting point of the Niger and Benue rivers has long made it a symbol of unity and diversity. Despite acknowledging that the state’s 35-year journey has not been without challenges, ASUSS credited successive administrations and the resilience of Kogi residents for measurable progress achieved over the decades.
As a body representing secondary school educators, ASUSS singled out the current administration’s attention to the education sector for particular commendation, saying the recognition being given to education as a pillar of sustainable development was welcome. The union argued that sustained investment in teachers and schools would continue to produce long-term benefits for the state.
Reaffirming its role as a stakeholder in the sector, ASUSS pledged to keep working with the state government to advance quality secondary education, maintain industrial harmony, and support policies aimed at improving teacher welfare and learning outcomes across Kogi State.
The statement closed with prayers for the state’s leadership, asking for wisdom, courage, and good health for those “steering the affairs of the State with fairness, justice, and vision.” ASUSS also prayed for continued peace, unity, security, and prosperity for citizens across the state.
The statement ended with the union’s well-wishes: “Happy 35th Anniversary, Kogi State! Long Live Kogi State! Long Live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!”
