Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello received the best silver jubilee celebration on Friday at the Lokoja Central Mosque when Kogi people defied the unusually heavy security around the governor to vent their anger against him with stone pebbles, rotten fruits and vegetables.
Despite the ‘intimidating’ presence of the biggest and the largest security around him; soldiers, DSS, mobile policemen, local vigilante, road safety officers, VIO, even peace corps including retired ex officials, the long-suffering people defied all odds and vetted their anger against the modern slave master in Lugard house.
The message to the governor is very clear – Don’t Take Kogites For Granted!
Of course, this year’s anniversary is one of the best ever in the history of Kogi state.
Religious wise, it is allowed to stone the devil. So, when a man puts up devilish acts, he will be treated like the devil. Although, when a governor is running for his own dear life, commoners must commit his own life in the hands of fate. In very strong terms, I condemned and still condemn the stoning a human being. I condemn the stoning of our Governor and such ugly incident should not be allowed to happen again.
There is a limit to what lies and propaganda can achieve. The government of Kogi state should do much more by explaining issues to the govern on the real position of government instead of their usual resort to name calling and use of vulgar words.
Bob Marley said, “You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.”
Those in authorities, in Lugard House, should acknowledge the facts that citizens orientation and awareness is on the increase. There are certain things that were condoned in the last seven or eight years that can no longer be condoned.
A hungry man is an angry man.
Thanks to the market women, workers, good people on the street, the okada riders, the wheel barrow pushers, the pure water sellers in Lokoja and Kogi state who truly demonstrated their grievances last Friday, but next time, a peaceful protest would have been better to avoid gun shots from the over-zealous and over protective security agents.
The 25 years anniversary started on Friday at the Lokoja Central Mosque in a very unique way.
I am aware some shoes are still in front of the mosque, as at yesterday.
Some said it was ‘ghost’ workers that carried out the action, some said it was a sponsored attacked. One thing happened, for sure, the governor was heckled, booed and chased out of the mosque. This is a sign that there is a limitation to everything.
