Olugbemi’s 6-Point Agenda for Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area Transformation

As the tenure of the outgoing Executive Chairmen and their teams ends today, it is imperative to bring to the public discourse the 6 Points Agenda of Olugbemi Femi Michael that will reposition governance for the overall benefit of the people at the local level.

1. First is Security. As we all known every other sectors thrive on the safety, peaceful and secured environment, as in any area that lacks the basic needs of security of lives and properties, nothing can go well, hence he has decided to make security of lives and properties to be his first point on his agenda for the local government.

Having the understanding of the enormous responsibility place on the shoulder of the local government Chairman, Olugbemi is prioritizing the security sector of the area as he is prepared to work with all stakeholders to sustain and build on the existing robust security measures by consistently engaging all stakeholders to bring about adequate security in the entire area.

The need to constantly meet with the traditional rulers, community development associations and other key stakeholders of keeping the people safe to carry out their daily activities be it as a farmer, market women and men to boost the economic activities of the area.

2. Second is Health. Health they say is wealth hence his administration will revitalize the Primary Health Centers across the fifteen wards and communities especially those in the rural area that is far to the tertiary health initiations in the local government, as that will reduce infant mortality rate.

For people to be able to go about their daily activities to create wealth hence improving the internal generated revenue, he is prioritizing the health sector with the regular supply of essential drugs to the primary health center as that will enable the people especially older people at the remote villages to access quality drugs to carter for their health needs, stressing that the regular immunization programs for children from age zero to adult will be well supported for the program to go on uninterrupted in the local government.

3. Education. After the environment is well secured and the people are healthy, then the need to energize the education sector becomes imperative to prepare the people by educating them to know the way to go in life especially primary school sector which is under the purview of the local government constitutionally. He will prioritize the welfare of primary school teachers, and also encourage the children to reduce the rate of out of school children in the area.

He promised to give maximum support to the education needs of the children by making it a policy in the local government to provide writing and other basic materials for learning that would enable a conducive atmosphere for both the children and the teachers, taking advantage of the newly established Kogi State University, Kabba.

He promised to work with other Stakeholders to eradicate cultism, hooliganism and other social vices especially among youths who are still in secondary schools and tertiary institutions, now that a State owned university is in Kabba.

4. Rural Infrastructure. There is no gainsaying that Kabba-Bunu local government is an agrarian local government hence the need to consistently open up rural roads that will enable the farmers move their farm produces to the market. Also important, the administration will partner with international agencies, donors, federal and state government agencies in providing solar powered lights to all the communities especially those in the rural areas.

5. Environmental. The need to clean up Kabba metropolis being the headquarters of Kogi West and okun nation and now host community to a State owned university cannot be over emphasized hence his administration will work with relevant stakeholders to introduce refuse collection in the metropolis, noted that the practice of dumping refuse indiscriminately in the town would not be tolerated. He promised to partner with the private sector and provide dump sites for the program to be effectively and efficiently implemented for the betterment of the local government.

6. Welfare. Finally the administration will prioritize the welfare of the staff of the local government and our tradition rulers in the area.

The effectiveness of the traditional institution in tackling some security challenges cannot be over emphasized hence their welfare will be top of his agenda especially, graded chiefs, ungraded chiefs, heads of villages, Oba Aladugbo will be well attended to assist the administration in realizing it’s objectives.

However, as a man of peace, culture that is humble, calm, he will work with all irrespective of tribe, religion, party affiliations and family background to bring about continuity and consolidation of the lofty achievements recorded by the outgoing government, working with the incoming administration to achieve his desire results especially in the area youths and women empowerments.
