There are strong indications that the Ohiogba of Mozum, HRH Khalid Bukar Ali and the Aguma of Bassa kingdom, HRH William Keke are under house arrest in Lokoja for failing to abide by Governor Yahaya Bello’s directive to maintain peace and order in their various domain in Bassa Local Government Area of Kogi State.

There are also indications that the Chief Security Officer of the Local Government Area, the Bassa Kwomu union leader and Igburra Mozum union leader are under house arrest with the traditional rulers even as a top state government appointee from the Local Government Area is currently said to be trailed for arrest for his alleged complicity in the renewed crisis in Bassa.

Our source hinted that crisis broke out in Bassa on Monday May 30, 2022 following the killing of a Bassa Kwomu palm wine tapper, Mr David Daku at Uga Cheure farm near Oguma. The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Galaticus Onogwu in a press statement in Lokoja on friday collaborated the story of the killing of the palm wine tapper in Bassa.

The killing of Mr Daku enraged the Bassa Kwomus who alleged that the Igburra Mozum people must probably be behind the heinous crime.

While security agents were still investigating the matter, another Bassa man was said to have been killed same day at Koromu near Udogbo.

On Thursday, June 2, 2022, two Bassa Kwomu men were said to have been killed at Sheria farm and Korumu village.

In another spate of violence, hostilities broke out at Udogbo and Mozum town with houses been razed and many left dead on Thursday June 9th, 2022.

The spate of crisis angered Governor Yahaya Bello who has since the first crisis broke out in 2018 in Bassa directed that he would deal ruthlessly with any traditional ruler in Bassa whose community start up any crisis.

The renewed crisis which stemmed out of the killing of a Bassa Kwomu palm wine tapper did not go well with the state government which was said to have directed its security apparatus to keep the two traditional rulers under house arrest.

As at the time of filing this report, efforts to release the two traditional rulers is still abortive as the state government has allegedly hinted that it must arrest some suspected criminals in Bassa who are said to be currently on the run and also get to the root of the matter.
