The Vice-President of the Kogi State Traditional Council and the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, Alhaji Ado Ibrahim, has called for unity among political office holders in order to enhance development, progress and prosperity.

He said major political actors in the country are expected to unite in their actions and thinking.

The monarch made this call at weekend during the prayer programme organised by Eyire clan in honour of the Chairman of Okene Local Government Area, Ahmed Ogembe and other appointees from the area.

He said people in government must strive hard to bring development to the area by networking with other groups in the state, saying that Ebiraland has suffered serious setback in the recent past due to misinformation and politics of division.

The Ohinoyi, who was represented by a second class chief in the area, the Asema Ezuka, Alhaji M. S. Isah, called politicians in the area to shun politics of hatred and ‘pull him down syndrome’, which he said was responsible for the woes witnessed in Ebiraland recently.

He said: “Okene being the hearth beat of the central senatorial district, must be peaceful at all times, any negative behaviour by the people can easily get to other parts of the central district.”

He, however, commended the unity that has existed so far among the politicians in the area, maintaining that the fragile peace the area now enjoys must be sustained and improved upon.

Also speaking, the immediate past Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Alhaji Abdullahi Bello, advised youths in the area to shun all forms of vices, saying that “no politician is worth dying for.”

He called on traditional rulers and other well meaning individuals in the area to continue to offer advice to the politicians, which he said will bring about the desired development and progress in the society.

In his remarks, Chairman of Okene Local Government Area, Ahmed Ogembe, thanked the people for their show of love and support for councils in central area of the state.
