Mr Seun Albert Oyelude, an NYSC member serving in Kogi, has established the biggest primary library with 700 textbooks for Ultimate Academic School in Ahoko, Kogi Local Government Area of the state.

Oyelude told journalists during the commissioning of the library at the school in Ahoko, that the gesture was born out of passion to see pupils have access to textbooks for excellent performance.

“When I was posted to this primary school last year, and on getting here,  I noticed that the pupils have very poor access to textbooks.

“So, I decided to undertake a personal Community Development Project to establish a library and shop for textbooks to fill it.

“I started this project last year by sending a proposal to NYSC State Coordinator for Kogi State.

“After approval was granted, I reached out to some individuals, NGOs and the State Ministry of Education  for supports. A total of 700 books were raised.

“We have a total of 700 books in the shelf, which makes the library the biggest with various books in primary school in this local government.

“All the pupils in this community and the neighbouring communities will also have access to the books. Readers are leaders,” Oyelude said.

He advised the communities to allow their children to make use of the books, and urged schools to encourage NYSC members to undertake similar projects.

Hon Awwal Mohammed, Kogi Commissioner for Transportation, who inaugurated the library, commended the corps member for the gesture, saying it was the first in the history of LGA.

He said that the State Government had made education one of the five thematic areas and created the enabling environment for everybody to thrive in the state.

Mohammed urged the school management to protect the materials and preserved the legacy, adding that “the library is the biggest primary school library in the LGA.

“Investment in education is key to any development, the Administration of Gov. Yahaya Bello is so desirous to giving quality education to the citizens.”

The Head Teacher of the school, Mr Victor Ali, and the Community Leader, Alhaji Ibrahim Adama, thanked the corps member for his goodwill, and promised to protect the library.

Some of the pupils who spoke to NAN, expressed their happiness over the library, and prayed that God would bless the corps member.

Goje Emmanuel, the school headboy, thanked the corper for establishing a befitting library for their school, while calling on government to build classroom for them.
