Bandits suspected to be kidnappers have invaded Ahoko community in Kotonkarfe Local Government Area of Kogi State, killing a wedding guest, identified as Zakari Kuru.

A resident of the community, Aliyu Saidu, who confirmed the incident to our reporter yesterday, said the incident happened in the wee hours of Saturday.

He said the bandits, who were over 30 with some of them wearing army uniform, invaded the community and shot sporadically into the house of an elderly man, Ibrahim Adama, whose son was getting married.

He said the deceased was sleeping in the living room of the elderly man when the gunmen opened fire into the house, killing him on the spot.

An elder brother of the groom, Mohammed Mundi, who also spoke with Daily Trust, said the bandits attacked his father’s house after they had gone to attend his younger brothers wedding reception in Kotonkarfe town.

“It was around 2am when we returned from the wedding reception of my younger brother in Kotonkarfe when we started hearing gun shot everywhere,” he said.

He said the deceased guest was a friend to his younger brother, who came from Kuru village in Nasarawa State to attend the wedding.

He said the remains of the deceased was later taken to Kuru village in Nasarawa state for burial as demanded by the family.

Mundi said the bandits came to abduct his father, whom he said has been a threat to the bandits over the years around the community.

“They actually came with the intention to abduct my father, because as they were shooting, they were shouting where is Sarki, let him come out now. So as people in the whole community started shouting, that was how they now escaped, “ he added.

The spokesman of the Kogi State Police Command, CSP Williams Aya, promised to call our reporter back when contacted; however, he did not return the call at the time of filling this report.
