  • Seeks ‘Cost of Living Allowance’ (COLA) for workers

Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP) has expressed gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari for the payment of April and May, 2018 withheld salaries of health workers.

NUAHP appealed to Buhari to direct relevant Federal Government authorities to immediately commence the payment of new hazard allowance for health workers with accrued arrears.

These were part of the resolutions reached at the third quarter 2022 National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of NUAPH.

In the communiqué issued at the end of the NEC meeting, NUAHP recalled that the President gave approval for a new hazard allowance for health workers since December, 2021.

The communiqué signed by Comrades Obinna Ogbonna and Martin Egbanubi, President and General Secretary respectively, urged President Buhari to give express approval to the adjustment of Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) and effect its payment accordingly.

On the state of economy, NUAHP NEC-in-Session urged federal government to put up policies targeted towards strengthening and stabilizing the naira.

In the interim, NUAHP recommended that government should forthwith introduce ‘Cost of Living Allowance’ (COLA) for workers as an interim way of cushioning the effect of the current excruciating economic condition in the country.

The union further recommended general salary review for enhanced and sustainable livelihood.

They called on President Muhamadu Buhari to direct the Federal Ministry of Health to commence the implementation of the circular on Pharmacist Consultant Cadre and other previously approved consultancy cadres for health professionals in the Federal tertiary health institutions.
