The chairman, Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission, Mr Abraham Olaniran, has assured the people of the state that nothing would change the fixed May 4 date for the local council poll.
Speaking against the apprehension that the election might not hold, Olaniran insisted that the date remained sacrosanct.
He urged political parties to ensure a level playing ground for all aspirants in the primaries.
Olaniran described the party primaries as a milestone in the electioneering process, urging parties to adhere strictly to the rules and guidelines on election of candidates to forestall acrimony and violence.
Olaniran, who spoke during a meeting with the leadership of political parties and other stakeholders in the state, explained that the commission was fully prepared for the election. He said he had toured the 21 local government areas in the state, towards ensuring a smooth conduct of the election.
A member of the Commission Mr Kehinde Asalu believed only only an unpopular candidates use thugs to win election urging them to always allow God to direct them.
He urged the parties to ensure the right candidates won the election and avoid imposition of candidates if the process must be credible and its eventual outcome acceptable.
