NDLEA Destroys Indian Hemp Farm in Isanlu, Kogi State

The Kogi state command of National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has destroyed  a 10 hectares of Cannabis Sativa (Indian hemp) farm, estimated at several millions of Naira, along Irunda- Isanlu road in Yagba East local government area of the state. The state Commander of NDLEA, Alhaji Idris Bello who disclosed this while speaking with journalists at the state command headquarters in Lokoja, stated the Kabba Area Command had discovered the farm on a tip off.

Bello  explained that the men of the command had placed surveillance on the farm until the farmer,one Kehinde Olorunmonu was arrested by men of Kabba Area  Command.

The state Commander stated that a combined team of state and Kabba Area command uprooted the fresh cannabis sativa and set them able.

The cannabis, estimated at N5 million at off season period and over N2 million during the season, were destroyed immediately during the exercise at the weekend.

Shedding more light, the Kabba Area commander, Bisong Peters Bisong pointed out that the had detected farm after a the tip off for a very long time until Olorunmonu was arrested on the 4th of October 2011.

The suspected farmer, Kehinde Olorunmonu who hails from Mopo in Isanlu admitted that he owned  the marijuana farm, and that he ventured into it after he had dropped the business of buying and selling.

The 38 years old applicant and father of three pointed said he ventured into it because he could not lay his hands on any job, adding that it was borne out desperation to feed his family.
