Just like yesterday, a hero Muhammed Abu Ali left us to the cold hands of death but his memory still lives on. It’s been 1year since our hero left us, a Kogi born commander who was a cobra in the field of war, a down to earth man, he was an officer in the Nigeria army yet asks his boys to stay back and give him cover while he fronts the battle. To him, it’s a no going back and a fight to finish. He brought about the peace we are enjoying today.

His elevation was first announced shortly after one of the army’s fiercest-ever battle with Boko Haram, in February 2015, culminating in the recapture of Baga from insurgents. But the official decoration was delayed until September when, after another monumental success — the capture of Gamboru-Ngala — Tukur Buratai, chief of army staff, visited the war front.
During that decoration, Buratai praised Ali for his “courage, bravery and exceptional performance in the fight against the Boko Haram but little do we know that his death was near, it was November 4th last year when he was ambushed and killed. Unlike him, he was harmless, unprepared, this is a clear indication that the inevitable journey was around.
I want to use this medium to commiserate with the family of Mohammed Abu Ali especially with the wife, Mariam Abu Ali and kids that they should take solace in the fact that he has sacrificed his life for Nigeria so that Nigerians can live, bear in mind that a popular Islamic scholar once said, if I die while asleep, I die in the name of Allah, if I die by gun it’s still in the name of Allah so what can man do to me? I still die in the name of Allah and that no man can take another man’s life except God wills. May your soul rest on sir, Mohammed Abu Ali.
