The people of Oganenigwu Ward in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State have expressed profound appreciation to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for the ongoing construction of the Iyale–Odolu–Efu–Oganenigwu Road, describing the project as the fulfilment of a long-standing dream that had remained unrealised for over 200 years.
The community’s appreciation was expressed during an inspection of the ongoing road construction by a delegation of prominent sons, Daughters and leaders of Dekina Local Government Area, led by Dr. Hassan Ocholi, a Board of Trustees member of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and an illustrious son of Oganenigwu.
The inspection provided an opportunity for community leaders to assess the level of work on the project and express their satisfaction with the intervention, which they described as significant to the development, connectivity and economic activities of the area.
Speaking during the inspection, the Managing Director of Swaley Nigeria Limited, the construction company handling the project, Wale Olaleye, commended Governor Ododo for ensuring the timely availability of resources for the execution of the road.
Olaleye assured the Governor and the people of Oganenigwu that the company remained committed to delivering quality work, expressing confidence that the project would be completed by the end of November 2026.
Also speaking, a community woman leader, Mrs. Monica Felix Agojeju, expressed deep appreciation to Governor Ododo for bringing to reality a road project that had remained a dream for generations.
She described the construction as a historic intervention that would bring relief to residents, improve transportation and open up the community to greater economic and social opportunities.
According to her, the project represents a significant turning point for the people of Oganenigwu, who have waited for more than two centuries to witness the realisation of the long-awaited road.
The community leaders and other numerous stakeholders expressed optimism that the completion of the Iyale–Odolu–Efu–Oganenigwu Road would improve accessibility, facilitate the movement of agricultural produce, boost commercial activities and strengthen connections among communities in Dekina Local Government Area. Oganenigwu Ward remains the highest producer of Cashew in Kogi State and Nigeria at large a major economic boost for Cashew farmer and traders in Nigeria
The people of Oganenigwu consequently thanked Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for the intervention, expressing hope that the project would be completed as scheduled for the benefit of present and future generations.
The Government awarded the project in August 2025 and 14months ago to be precise work commenced and currently at 80% Completion
