Commissioners of the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) continued their statewide sensitization tour with visit to Igalamela/Odolu, Idah, Ibaji and Ajaokuta local government areas.
A statement by the Commissioner in charge of media and publicity, Hon. Yakubu Musa Chogudu says the delegation was led by KOSIEC Chairman, Hon. Mamman Nda Eri and included all KOSIEC Commissioners as well as other principal officers of the commission.
According to Chogudo, the KOSIEC delegation set out to sensitize traditional rulers, Directors of Local Government (DLG), community leaders, stakeholders and security agents on the need for a peaceful and transparent electoral process in the local government elections scheduled for the 12th of December, 2020.
In his remark, the Commission Chairman, Hon. Mamman Nda Eri, stressed that “voter education remains paramount to the success of any credible election.”
He called on the people to ensure that adequate grassroots mobilization and sensitization are carried out to encourage massive turnout of voters and results that reflect the wishes of the majority are achieved.
He also assured the people of the readiness of KOSIEC to conduct free fair and credible elections but however called for support from the people to make the election successful.
He further called for synergy between the traditional rulers, government officials, stakeholders, political parties, religious leaders and security agencies. He also emphasised the need to “avoid any form of action that could hamper the smooth conduct of the election.”
The traditional rulers appealed to the electoral umpire to ensure that the elections are conducted with total impartiality. They also pledged to transmit the message of KOSIEC to every nook and crannies of the area.
Traditional rulers visited include the Ejeh of Ibaji, HRH Joseph Ukwuchome Ogwu, the Ochadu Oko- AttahIgala, HRH Samson Ekele Adejoh Achema II, the Etemahi Igalamela, HRH Abel Etuh and the Ohi of Eganyi HRH Isah Achuja.
The DLGs of all the local government areas visited were also in attendance.
Security agencies including the Nigeria Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps were also represented.
Political parties, civil society organizations, community leaders and government officials were not left out.
