Incumbent Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial district, Smart Afolabi Adeyemi, is fighting his biggest political battle at the moment. His campaign to return to upper legislative chambers for a record third term is gathering more dusts than earlier envisaged.

Yesterday in Lokoja, some persons believed to be Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faithfuls attacked Smart Adeyemi’s campaign train when he allegedly gate-crashed into a PDP meeting where party elders were mapping out plans for Saturday’s elections. A scared and ruffled Smart Adeyemi had to run and hide in a local building as irate youths reportedly stoned him and his entourage.

This attack is coming on the heels of a recent and similar humiliation he suffered in Yagba West LGA of the district.

During the Yagba West attack by irate youths, the convoy of oil-magnate Bashorun Jide Omokore was reportedly stoned. Omokore, Smart Adeyemi’s major financier and god-father, we gathered had since left Isanlu for Abuja in the face of open rejection even by persons who reportedly have collected huge sums from him. Omokore, who has been in his Isanlu home town for some days now in his bid to mobilize grassroot support for Smart Adeyemi and other PDP candidates, had to leave hurriedly after the attack that his large security details could not curtail. It is unclear if the money-bag will return before Saturday elections or not.

A source who craved anonymity told Kogireports that politicians in Kogi West across party divide are ready to reject Smart Adeyemi and Jide Omokore on Saturday. The source claimed that virtually all notable political leaders and leaders of thought in the seven local government areas of Kogi West are spending their personal resources to ensure they succeed in their determined patriotic bid to stop the ‘Third Term Movement’.

Further findings suggests that PDP leaders in the zone are bent on ensuring that Smart lose on Saturday. These leaders are reportedly working for the senatorial candidate of Accord Party, Chief Samuel Bamidele Aro.

Saturday’s election will be very interesting as keen watchers will love to see if Smart Adeyemi can re-enact his ‘Smart Wand’ against his opponents who are more determined than ever to unseat him.
