The Governing Council of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has announced the appointment of Dr. Godwin Ojodomo Onamah as the new Deputy Rector of the institution.
According to an official press statement released on Tuesday in Lokoja by the Acting Co-ordinator of the Directorate of Public Relations and Protocols, John Amos Onimisi, the approval was conveyed through the Chairman of the Governing Council, Barrister Sanni Shaibu, pending formal ratification at the council’s next sitting.
The appointment brings an accomplished academic, seasoned administrator, and distinguished public servant with nearly three decades of service in teaching, institutional management, and public administration to the executive leadership of the polytechnic.
Dr. Onamah holds a Doctorate degree (Ph.D.) in Public Administration and Local Government Administration, a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Public Administration, and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A. Hons) in the same discipline. His academic progression at Kogi State Polytechnic spans 30 years, having joined the institution as a Lecturer III in 1996 and rising through the ranks to achieve the status of Chief Lecturer in 2010.
To complement his academic background, Dr. Onamah holds specialized professional certifications in IT Management, Digital Transformation, Cyber Security, and Emerging Technology, underpinning his commitment to modernizing tertiary education.
Within the institution, Dr. Onamah’s administrative history is extensive. He previously served as Head of the Department of Public Administration, Dean of the Directorate of Students Services, Director of the Academic Planning Unit, Member of the Governing Council representing the Academic Board, and Director of Advancement, Support and Linkages. In these roles, he spearheaded numerous key committees focused on academic accreditation, curriculum design, institutional restructuring, examination security, and strategic planning.
Beyond the academic sphere, Dr. Onamah has contributed to public governance at the highest state levels, having served as the Honourable Commissioner for Works in Kogi State between 2014 and 2016, following earlier service with the Kogi State Civil Service Commission.
His professional standing is supported by several fellowships, including Fellow of the Institute of Industrial Administration of Nigeria, Fellow of the Institute of Policy Management Development, and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Administration of Nigeria. He is also an active member of the Nigerian Political Science Association and the Nigerian Institute of Management, alongside receiving various institutional and community honors.
The management expressed confidence that Dr. Onamah’s combined experience across higher education, public policy, and institutional governance will meaningfully advance the strategic growth and academic standards of Kogi State Polytechnic.
