Kindly permit me space on your news website, kogireports.com, to make plain the real situation of things in Radio Kogi.

In 2015, under the Governor Idris Wada-led administration, approval was given to the management of Radio Kogi to employ more staff to ensure efficient and effective running of the radio station and other booster stations. Government gave approval for the employment of 92 new staff by the management, in her wisdom, employed 182.

In the management’s wisdom, there was need for more than 92 staff to effectively run the radio stations. The government approval for employment was cash-backed with N2.9million.

Despite exceeding the approval quota, money allocated for the new staff to be employed was still at the limit of what the management structured to pay 182 staff employed. The 2015 employees were practically underemployed, but we are not complaining. Checks will reveal to you that B.SC degree holders were placed on grade 2/1. Everyone’s level was cut down, just to meet up with the allocation. N2.9million was approved but N2.75million was used for salaries. That is short of N150,000 difference. Since the new governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, assumed position in January 2016 we have not been paid despite the fact that we were legitimately placed on government payroll before his assumption of office.

Our problem is the same management.

During the controversial screening exercise under former Chairman, General Okuntimo, the management of Radio Kogi separated the ‘old staff list’ from the ‘new staff list’. Management erred by not submitting the ‘new staff list’ to the screening committee before the screening.  On the day of screening, even the screening committee ask them why they have to separate the list and they could not explain. Again, a 2015 staff who know his was went to get about 68 screening forms from government house and the management decided to distribute it to those they know.

Our hopes were brightened when we heard the news that the old screening report will be discarded and a more thorough exercise will be carried out soon under the chairmanship of Dr. Jerry. We appeal to the state government to show concerns for us and ensure we are screened along side others.

Thank you.
