A newly formed political pressure group, the Anebira Rescue Movement Political Family (ARM), has declared its support for Chief Momoh Yusuf Obaro to fly the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag and ultimately win the Kogi Central senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.

The group was formally unveiled in Lokoja, where its Convener, Hon. Ahovi Adams, said the movement grew out of extensive consultations with traditional rulers, community leaders, political stakeholders, women’s and youth organisations, and other residents across the district.

Adams said the movement’s core mission is to push issue-based politics centred on economic empowerment, education, infrastructure, youth development, and security, in place of what he described as politics built on intimidation and personal attacks.

He described Obaro as a candidate with the experience and vision needed to restore public confidence in governance.

ARM also named a fallback option: if Obaro does not make the ballot, the group said its members would throw their support behind Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, citing her record on issues affecting Kogi Central.

ARM called on security agencies to act professionally and impartially going forward, insisting that no citizen should be harassed or arrested over political affiliation or the exercise of constitutional rights to association and political participation.

Warning on Clan-Based Politics

The group also took aim at what it called a growing pattern of clan-based politics in Kogi Central, warning that favouring a single clan or community over others undermines unity among the Ebira people.

ARM argued that governance and appointments should be guided by fairness, competence, and inclusiveness rather than ethnic considerations.

It accused the current administration of concentrating benefits and patronage within one clan while neglecting others, cautioning that communities left out of that patronage should not be expected to back the same interests in future elections.

As an example, ARM pointed to criticism once directed at Hon. Okara for distributing ₦50,000 grants to the Ezi-Edu Aniku community while heading the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) office, asking why similar or larger-scale selective patronage is now allegedly tolerated without comparable pushback.

Call for Unity

ARM closed its statement with an appeal to political leaders across Kogi Central to move away from divisive politics and adopt equal treatment for every clan, district, and community.

The group pledged its own commitment to peaceful, democratic engagement and urged residents to reject intimidation and attempts to set one clan against another ahead of the 2027 polls.
