A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Kogi State Government and Cannal Resources Limited for conversion of solid waste to wealth.

The project involves the generation of electricity and production of organic fertilizers from solid waste.

The state governor, Capt Idris Wada (rtd), said during the signing of the MoU at the weekend at the Government House in Lojoka that preparation had been put in place to ensure the project become a reality.

Wada expressed confidence that given the track record of the chief executive officer of Cannal Resources Limited in the execution of various projects, the company would deliver all the promises as contained in the MoU.

The governor assured that the state government would perform its obligations on the MOU, stressing that it would also support the operation of Cannal Resources Limited in converting solid waste to wealth project.

Earlier in his address, the Commissioner for Environment, Alhaji Abdulrahman Wuya, disclosed that Canal Resources Limited in partnership with Acon Environment of Care, Denmark, proposed to set up a processing plant in Lokoja, the state capital.

Wuya said that the state government had provided 20 hectares of land at Felele Industrial Layout in Lokoja for the project

He added that the plant has capacity to take 255,000 metric tonnes of waste per annum which would generate 29,000 mega watts of electricity supply and produce 150,000 metric tonnes of organic fertilizers for the farmers.

In his remarks, the Chief Executive Officer of Cannal Resources Limited, Chris Akoma, hailed the governor for investing in effort aimed at developing the state.

Akoma said the technology the company would use in converting solid waste to wealth is one of the best in the world.

He, however, said the project would be delivered in 18 months, beginning from the date the commissioner for environment would be handing over the Certificate of Occupancy of allocated land to the company.
