Kogi state chapter of Social Democratic Party (SDP) has expelled former Minister of Police Affairs, Humphrey Abbah from the party.

The decision to expel the former minister was reached at an emergency executive council meeting of the party in Lokoja on Thursday.

In a statement issued by the state acting chairman of SDP, Alhaji Mouktar Atima, Humphrey Abbah’s expulsion will be forwarded to the national leadership of the party for appropriate action.

“It will interest all to know that our great party suspended the former minister of police affairs, Mr Humphrey Abba few weeks to the last general elections for anti party activities.

“A committee was set up to look into activities levelled against him in trying to find out if he was culpable of the allegations. The former minister did not honour all invitations to get his own side of the allegations. He felt bigger than the committee but they still went ahead to do their job.

“Upon assumption of office, we made it clear that the party is supreme and all members should comport themselves within the party’s constitution. We tried to give him fair hearing but he viewed himself to be bigger than the state chapter of the party.

“At the emergency meeting of the State Executive Council, it was decided that he still remains suspended from our party, it was also agreed that the report of the committee should be forwarded to the party national secretariat for appropriate action.

“In the recommendation, we advised that he should be expelled from the party. This decision was made based on the proximity of the state gubernatorial elections coming soon and the party at the state is prepared to unseat the present ruling party from Lugard house, hence, we need to close ranks and know those going to the battlefield with us.

“With this development, the party guidelines for the election will soon be released as we prepare for intense and aggressive campaigns. We can’t afford to go for the race with a divided front.

Members of the party and the general public are advised not to have any dealing with him as regards our party anyone who does so is on his own,” the statement read.

Atima urged members, supporters and associates to remain resolute as the party is committed to freeing Kogi state from the shackles of mismanagement and poverty.
