Dr Suberu Yusuf-John, Special Adviser to Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo on Road Safety Matters, has empowered 27 residents with cash grants and distributed wrappers to 300 elderly persons in his home ward, Ege/Iruvochinomi, in Adavi Local Government Area.
The event drew government officials, party leaders, traditional and religious figures, and community members, who described it as a significant grassroots outreach ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Yusuf-John said the empowerment programme was his way of giving back to his community in appreciation for what he described as God’s grace on his life. He singled out the Auditor-General of Local Government Areas in Kogi State, Hon. Yakubu Adabenege, for special recognition, describing him as a longtime leader and mentor whose support had shaped his political and public service career.
He also thanked Governor Ododo for an ongoing road project in the community and for his own recent elevation from Senior Special Assistant to Special Adviser on Road Safety Matters. Dr Yusuf-John noted that other indigenes of the ward had similarly benefited from appointments into government positions under the current administration.
In his remarks, Hon. Adabenege said he attended the event primarily to celebrate Dr Yusuf-John’s recent promotion and to lend his support to the empowerment programme. He praised the initiative as a welcome and commendable gesture, and described Dr Yusuf-John as an asset not only to Ege/Iruvochinomi Ward but to the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led state government and the wider Kogi population.
Adabenege commended the ward’s continued support for the Ododo administration and the APC ahead of the 2027 elections. Addressing a list of requests from the community — including employment opportunities, political appointments, backing for local sons and daughters seeking elective office, further empowerment programmes, and improved access to potable water — he pledged to relay these to the Governor and expressed confidence in the administration’s commitment to grassroots development.

Organisers and attendees framed the outreach as an opportunity for direct engagement between the community and government representatives, allowing residents to raise concerns and reaffirm political support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
