Kogi Police Command Clarifies Status of Road Block at Banda, Along Lokoja-Abuja Road

The Kogi State Police Command has denied reports that the ADC to Governor Yahaya Bell, CSP Usman Shugaba mounted a stop and search road block at Banda along Lokoja-Abuja highway.

In a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, William Aya, the command said the stop and search operation was a police operation that has nothing to do with the Governor’s ADC.

He explained that the operation at Banda was in compliance with the directives of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu to check illegal deployment of police personnel to VIPs.

“The attention of the Kogi State Police Command has been drawn to the news making the round in social media alleging that the ADC to Governor Yahaya Bello had mobilized, led Police Officers and mounted a stop and search at Banda along Lokoja-Abuja express road.

“The Command wish to state unequivocally that the story is not only the figment of the imagination of the authors, but totally false, malicious and highly mischievous. The Commissioner of Police in compliance with the directives of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu NPM, mni to check illegal deployment of Police personnel to VIPs, directed the Squadron Commander, 37 Police Mobile Force, CSP Muhammad S. Mohammed to carry out aggressive stop and search to check the movement of arms and illegal deployment of Police personnel in Kogi State being the gate way to between States from North and South.

“The Command wish to State categorically clear that the operation was legal and directed by Commissioner of Police so as to nip in the bud any acts capable of disrupting the electoral process in the State. It was strictly Police operation which has nothing to do with the ADC to the State Governor,” the statement read.

He urged all peace loving citizens of Kogi State to report any incident during the election to the Police.
