Irrespective of their political affiliations, the elected National Assembly members from Kogi State would collaborate through effective legislations, debates and lobbying to bring development to the state. That was the promise by the senator-elect from Kogi West, Dino Melaye.

Melaye made the pledge in Lokoja recently when the Independent National Electoral Commission presented certificates of return to three elected senators and eight House of Reps members.

The Senator-elect, who spoke on behalf of the members, noted that although they would be senators and House of Reps members representing their respective senatorial districts and federal constituencies, “we shall collaborate for effective development of Kogi State.’’

He gave assurance that the members would not abuse the mandate or abdicate their responsibilities to the electorate.

Dino further maintained that through law-making and oversight functions, he would ensure that the plights of his people were ameliorated.

He thanked security agents, INEC and other critical stakeholders for ensuring that there were free, fair and credible elections.

On Chibok girls, Dino said the President-elect and the in-coming National Assembly would try to rescue the girls and bring them back safely.

Also speaking to journalists, the senator-elect for Kogi East, Abdulraham Abubakar, confessed, “I feel very good, fulfilled and happy for my people.’’

He declared that he would represent his people faithfully regretting that, ‘’as the ninth largest tribe in the country, we still lag behind in terms of development; but I hope to make a positive change.’’

Abubakar implored his co-contestants ‘’to join hands with me for the long-awaited change and to fast-track the development of the senatorial district, the state and the entire country.’’

The elected member representing Idah Federal Constituency and the immediate past State Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Hon Emmanuel Egwu, disclosed that his programme would centre more on the welfare of the people.

He pledged to pay school fees for indigent students, just as he appreciated the efforts of co-contestants who aided to complete the process of election exercise.

The senators-elect who got the certificates are: Abdulrahman Abubakar (Kogi East), Mohammed Ohiare (Kogi Central) and Dino Melaye (Kogi West), while those of House of Reps include: Emmanuel Egwu (Idah/Ibaji/Igalamela/Odolu/Ofu Constituency), Hassan Omale (Ankpa/Olamaboro/Omala Constituency), Lawal Mohammed Idirisu (Ajaokuta), Bello Abdullahi (Okene/Ogori/Magongo) and Azanah Mohammed (Adavi/Okehi).

The rest are: Buba Jibrin (Lokoja/Kogi), Yusuf Tajudeen (Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu) and Sunday Karimi (Mopa-Muro/Yagba East/Yagba West).

No candidate from Dekina/Bassa was presented a certificate of return because the election in the constituency was inconclusive as at the time the presentation was being made.
