The Kogi State Government has assured of greater collaboration with organizations that are concern about the welfare of its citizens.
Capt. Idris Wada, the Kogi State Governor, represented by his Deputy, Yomi Awoniyi, said pragmatic approach has been put in place to assist vulnerable groups and to support care givers.
The Governor who stated this when he received the Catholic Relief Services, a consortium, founded in 1943 by the United State Conference of Catholic Bishops to assists the poor and disadvantaged in the society.
The Governor assured that his administration has placed the wellbeing of vulnerable people as a priority, disclosed that his administration has empowered the less privileged through employment opportunities and other financial support.
Capt. Wada solicited support of other well meaning organizations, adding that the upkeep of vulnerable groups and persons in the society should not be left on the hands of government alone.
In his remarks, the programme coordinator of Catholic Relief Services, Brian John said the oragnisation intends to partner with the State through a five year program to scale up care and support services for orphans and the vulnerable children in the State.
Mr. Brian disclosed that Kogi State is among the five selected States that will benefit from the services of the Catholic Relief Services,
said their mission is to strengthen the capacity of the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development to enable them coordinate activities of the vulnerable in the society.
Also speaking, Mrs. Patience Mameh, Commissioner for Women Affairs, commended the initiative of the Catholic Relief Services, disclosed that the present administration has placed emphasis on the reduction of HIV/AIDs, including support to orphans and vulnerable children, assured of her Ministry’s support to making the partnership work.
