Kogi State House of Assembly committee on Public Account has called on the state government to commence payment of judiciary workers’ salary.

The House committee made the call in its report on the state Auditor-General’s report on 2016 financial statement.

Reading the report during plenary on Tuesday, the Committee Chairman, Hon. Ahmed Mohammed of Ankpa 1 faulted the non-appearance of the Judiciary to give evidence before the committee after invitation was sent on several occasions.

He charged the House to take up the non-appearance of Judiciary leadership as no one arm of government is greater than the other.

“Section 128 of the 1999 constitution, as amended, is quiet clear and unequivocal about the powers of the Assembly in carrying out its responsibilities. Any act purported to have hindered the fulfilment of this duty is in itself an act of gross misconduct. Section 292 (a)(II) of the constitution also adumbrates on the act of gross misconduct as basis for removal,” he said.

The Ahmed Mohammed-led committee recommended the removal of the Chief Judge, Nasir Ajanah for gross misconduct.
