The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Kogi state, has passed a vote of confidence on Governor Yahaya Bello for his patriotic zeal to reclaim Obajana Cement from Dangote Group.
The local government, in a statement signed by the state chairman of ALGON, Taufiq Isa, said “events of the past few days has further reinforced our hope of a better Nigeria with selfless and rightful leader”, adding that Governor Yahaya Bello has demonstrated uncommon patriotism in running the affairs of Kogi state.
“We are amazed in a nation where people play politics with human lives and on the altar of friendship, there comes a leader who has stood firmly with his people to fight their course no matter whose ox is gored.
“It is on this background that the Kogi ALGON commended His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello on his resolve to right the wrongs in the illegal and imperialistic acquisitions of Obajana Cement Company by Dangote Group.
“All facts have shown that Kogi State Government was shortchanged heavily in the transfer of ownership of this common patrimony of ours. We are glad that God has entrusted Kogi State with a Leader like His Excellency to fight and recover what rightfully belong to our dear State.
“Before now, reports of the judicial commission of inquiry, special technical committee and the House of Assembly resolution on the ownership quagmire have clearly shown that all hands must be on deck to retrieve what belongs to the generality of Kogi State.
“Kogi ALGON is indeed proud of His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello on the implementations of the various reports and resolutions.
“It gladdens our heart to see His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello fighting the cause of the people when infact all his predecessors were only interested in making friendship and business with our common heritage. None of them have deemed if fit to confront the establishment on what rightly belongs to our people,” the statement said.
ALGON assured Governor Bello that all the local government Chairmen in the state are fully on ground to forestall any breakdown of law and order in the aftermath of this implementation.
“We, therefore, warn those who are hellbent on maintaining the status quo of oppression and subjugation of our people to steer clear of Kogi as it will be too hot for them to handle.
“It is on this premise that all the 21 Local Government Chairmen under the umbrella of Kogi ALGON pass a vote of confidence on His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello to continue the good works of an enduring legacy of selfless service in Kogi State and beyond. More so, we are expressing our sincere loyalty at all times to you. History will be kind to you and your generation Sir.”
