The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Kogi state, has condemned the unfortunate fire incident at the State House of Assembly complex by suspected arsonists in strong terms.

In a statement signed by the State ALGON Chairman, Hon. Taufiq Isa, the association fingered “those who feel intimidated by actions of the Kogi State Government and felt they could scare it from righting the wrong in the illegal acquisition of Obajana Cement PLC.”

Taufiq, who is also the National Organising Secretary of ALGON, insisted that nobody, no matter how highly placed, can intimidate Governor Yahaya Bello to abandon his quest to right the wrongs of the past.

“Kogi State will come out stronger to the envy of all. Kogi ALGON believes in the capacity of the state security agencies to bring the perpetrators to book.

“We sympathize with His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the Kogi State Government, the Kogi State House of Assembly and the entire people of the state on this senseless and wanton destruction of our heritage. The State ALGON will continue to support His Excellency at all times in his task of restoring the lost glory of our dear state.

“We equally commend the members of the State House of Assembly ably led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Matthew Kolawole, for standing firmly by the truth. Your supports for His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello is worthy of note. We shall continue to support you in the task of delivering meaningful legislations and resolutions to the generality of Kogites.

“Also, all the 21 Local Government Chairmen pledge their unalloyed loyalty to His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello and affirmed that we shall continue to emulate and domesticate His Excellency’s lofty ideas at the grassroot levels. And as the Chief Security Officers of our various Councils, we will not condone any act capable of undermining the peace and tranquility as exemplified by His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello at the state level. As empowered by the Executive Governor, we shall deal ruthlessly, in conjunction with the security agencies, with anyone found wanting in this destruction. The constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has empowered the Chairmen of the local Government areas to do the needful in defending their localities against criminal elements,” he said.
