In the bid to raise topnotch entrepreneurs from the scratch, Khalif Cares Foundation, a charitable organization has empowered not less than 800 youths and women drawn from across the five local government areas in the central senatorial district of Kogi State.
The empowerment on Friday rounded up months of intensive training of beneficiaries on basic skills acquisition, in partnership with the Delta State branch of Helping Hands International, a Non-Governmental Organization.
It would be recalled that the foundation had on Friday December 1st, 2017 certified 600 trainees from Adavi, Okehi and Okene local government areas, and subsequently began the training of another 200 from Ajaokuta and Ogori/Magongo local government areas.
Speaking at the event which hosted a fair of products made by the beneficiaries, the Founder of Khalif Cares Foundation, Alhaji Abdulrahman Khalifa Okene expressed delights in the opportunity to meet and reach-out to the people.
He stated that the love for his people and the need to start producing “Made in Kogi” products propelled his move to raise entrepreneurs from amongst the less privileged in the society.
He promised to monitor the strides of individual beneficiaries, hence further supporting those with remarkable progress in their respective skills.
Khalifa Okene also added that not less than 200 market women each from the five local government areas would be empowered in June, 2018; with special interests in also promoting the traditional fabric weavers.
The Coordinator of Helping Hands International, Emmanuel Gbemiro eulogized the hospitality his team enjoyed during their stay in the district.
According to him, the journey of training the people started when his team met with the founder of the foundation, and agreed to partner in what he described as a vision.
“When we met with him, he was emphatic about his vision to touch the lives of the people. He told us there are lots of men, women and youths that he had always thought of empowering. The initial target was 200 people, but he kept increasing the number till we had to stop at 800.
“Helping Hands International recognizes him, and we appreciate the people of Kogi Central. We are only looking forward to partnering with him in bettering the lives of other Nigerians. As you can see, on display are things that the people he empowered have done. They have produced cake, chin-chin, insecticides, air-fresheners, soaps, leather bags and shoes, solar inverters amongst others.
Speaking earlier at the event, the General Manger of Tao FM, Dr Halimat Saliu appreciated the benevolence of Khalifa, particularly those targeted at women.
She urged the beneficiaries to neither divert nor embezzle the start-up funds given to them by the foundation.
