Keep Lokoja Clean: Kogi Sets Up Joint Committee Between Govt and Community Leaders

As part of efforts to keep Lokoja, the Kogi State Capital clean and orderly, the State Government has set up a Joint Committee between Government and Community leaders on a new environmental sanitation programme for the town.

The decision were the resolutions reached at a meeting between leaders of various sections of Lokoja, and that of the State Government team headed by the State Deputy Governor Yomi Awoniyi who also doubles as the Chairman, Committee on Beautification and Sanitation.

The meeting agreed that there should be partnership between residents of Kabawa and the State Government particularly in ensuring the building of public toilets and drainages in the area.

The residents who pledged to improve on the sanitary condition of Lokoja, particularly in Kabawa and its neighboring areas appealed to Government to play leadership role in mobilizing men and resources towards achieving the desired result.

The resolution also called for more public enlightenment on the need for good sanitation, called on the Waste Management Board to be responsible to their duties at all times.

Participants at the meeting agreed that Kabawa and its adjoining areas have serious sanitation challenges, which requires serious attention, appealed for a befitting motor park in Lokoja.

The participants who acknowledged the limited resources of Government called for individual sacrifices.

The resolution also called on traders along NATACO area to move backward from the road particularly for reasons of safety while vehicles should be disallowed from parking on the road side.

A Joint Committee to allow for the implementation of all the resolutions reached at the stakeholders meeting was formed between Government and the Community.

The community was also called upon to constitute a task force to enforce sanitation in theĀ  area.
