Kabba Development Union (KDU) and the Kabba Grassroots Sports Development Initiative (KGSDI) have announced plans for sports development in Kabba, Kogi state.
At the official partnership even on Tuesday, KDU and KGSDI agreed to change the sports landscape in Kabba community.
They pledged to nurture local sporting talents and provide them with the opportunity to shine on a bigger stage.
Coordinator of KGSDI, Lanre Obafemi and President General of KDU, Engr Emmanuel Ajibero, explained that the partnership agreed on the sponsorship of the KDU Secondary School Champions Cup, a championship designed to unearth and showcase the best talents in Kabba.
According to Ajibero, “the objective is clear: to develop young talents into skilled athletes who can compete at a higher level.”
On his part, Obafemi said “the partners have recognized that talent knows no bounds and have decided to extend their reach beyond school premises. As such, we will actively scout for talented football players within the community, ensuring that even those who didn’t have the opportunity to attend school can still pursue their passion for the game.”
“In sum, this meeting has set the stage for a new era of sports excellence in Kabba, one that promises to not only showcase local talent but also provide young athletes with the platform they deserve. With the support of the community and the dedication of KDU and KGSDI, Kabba’s sporting future is looking brighter than ever.”
The event also birthed Kabba United Football Club.
The football club will be a joint venture, with KDU overseeing its operations while KGSDI takes on the role of the technical partner.
Furthermore, KDU emphasized the importance of community integration, setting a target that 70 to 80 percent of Kabba United FC’s players should hail from Kabba community.
KDU and KGSDI expressed their intention to explore other sports in the near future, promising an exciting array of opportunities for the youth of Kabba.
Present at the meeting were top executives of KDU, including its President General, Engr. Emmanuel Ajibero; Vice President, Emmanuel Bobinihi; Treasurer, Hon. Bisi Yusuf; Financial Secretary, Pastor John Ibiejemite; Women’s Representative, Mary Jerome.
Others are Assistant Secretary, Hon. J K Funsho; Ex-Officio, Comrade. Monisola Fagbemi, and Public Relations Officer, Mrs James Olorunmolu.
On the other hand, KGSDI was represented by its coordinator, Lanre Obafemi and technical director, Samuel Oloniyo Kayode.
