An appeal has gone to Kogi state government to construct, Jamata-Owara-Budon-Kupa-Eggan Roads in Lokoja 11 Constituency.
The appeal was made by member representing Lokoja 11 constituency in Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Idris Ndako, while presenting a motion of urgent public importance at the plenary session yesterday.
He explained that the construction of these roads which link Kogi, Kwara and Niger states will go along way in alleviating the problems of farmers and generate more revenue for government.
Hon Ndako further explained that the inhabitants of these communities are predominantly farmers with over 15,000 hectares of fertile land for cultivation of rice, maize, cassava, yam and for fishing as well. These resources, he added, when utilized have the capacity to feed the state and the entire nation.
He pointed out that the construction of the roads would encourage and allow individuals whose interest for commercial farming in these areas are on daily increase but only being discouraged by lack of access road.
He added economic activities that will blossom with the construction of these roads will also aid the fast failing federal allocation to our state.
He described road construction as an important key to socio-economic development of any nation.
Stressing further, he said as a result of the deplorable condition of the roads, people of these communities have suffered loss of millions of naira of their agricultural produce due to lack of storage facilities and means of transporting same to market.
He commend the past administration of former governor Ibrahim Idris, for constructing two bridges across the roads and urged the present administration to do more.
The motion was seconded by Hon Godwin Osiyi Ojo from Ogori/ Magongo state constituency.
In his contribution, member representing Ijumu constituency, Hon Victor Adewale Omafaiye, supported the motion and commended the sponsor of the motion for always identifying with the plights of the people of his constituency.
