A socio-political, Kogi New Front (KNF) has warmed the Nigerian Senate against intimidating the Inspector General of Police over Senator Dino Melaye’s gun running case.
Addressing newsmen in Lokoja, the spokesman of the group, Mr. Alex Abodunde said the Senate cannot continue to “abuse its position by harassing law enforcement agents in the course of their duties”.
“The Kogi New Front has uncovered a self-serving plan by the Senate to summon the Inspector General of Police to plenary with the sole aim of harassing the police to drop the gun running charges against Sen. Dino Melaye.
“The decision was reached after some Senators loyal to the Senate President met at a popular hotel in Abuja to draw up plans to ensure Dino evades justice after the embattled Senator threatened to expose the corruption in the Senate.
“We wish to make it categorically clear that we are prepared to mobilize millions of Nigerians to stop the waste that the Senate represents.
“Dino Melaye must face the law. He has claimed to be an activist. He shouldn’t be running away from justice. He should tell us what he knows about the allegations and stop running from justice.
“Nigeria cannot continue to overpay Senators at our expense for them to again turn around to be arming criminals to kill us. That amounts to double jeopardy”.
The KNF urged the Police to remain resolute in discharging its responsibility of protecting the citizens.
