The President of Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria (APBN), Dr Idris Omede has called on government to address the perennial problem in the oil sector.
Omede made the call during a press briefing at the end of the board meeting of APBN hosted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Nigeria (ICAN) in Lagos on Tuesday.
He expressed delight on the recent ground breaking ceremony of the first private modular refinery in the oil and gas rich Niger Delta region and called on other licensee to begin construction of more modular refineries.
“The recent ground breaking ceremony of the first private modular refinery in the oil and Gas rich Niger Delta region is commendable out of the 22 licenses for construction of modular refineries, issued by the current administration. We call on other licensures to actualize the construction of more modular refineries to ease off the perennial fuel scarcity. While we also appreciate that very soon the Dangote Refinery in Lagos will come on line soon.
“However, Government needs to be more committed and transparent in addressing this perennial problem in the oil sector,” he said.
Omede called on the various arms of government and the organized private sector to accommodate the role of APBN as a patriotic drive for a better professional base. This, he said, will be made possible through collaboration and mutual relationship for accelerated national development through the scope of her member bodies and regulatory bodies in enhancing training, infrastructural development, service delivery and research.
