Ekinrin-Adde Day 2023: Prof Ibileye for Induction Into Omo-Atata Hall of Fame

Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye has been nominated for induction into the Omo-Atata Hall of Fame at the community Award night slated for June 2023.

The nomination of the Professor of English, according to Elder Deinde Komolafe, Secretary General of the Ekinrin-Adde Community Development Association (EACDA), is sequel to his laudable feat in learning and character, as well as his noble commitment to community development.

Ibileye, an expert in socio-linguistics and pragmatic, was born on the 7th of June 1966 to the family of  Pa and Mrs. Emmanuel Ibileye of the Agbalogbo clan of Ekinrin-Adde.

He had his primary school education at the Baptist Primary School Ekinrin-Adde.

He capped up his early education at Government High School,  Ilorin, Kwara State, where he obtained his Ordinary Level certificate in 1984.

He proceeded to the then Kwara State College of Technology, where he obtained his GCE and IJMB Advanced Level results and thereafter proceeded to the Ahmadu Bello University,  Zaria to pursue a degree in English Language and graduated in 1989.

He was absorbed into the Lecturing cadre of his alma mater as a Graduate Assistant in 1992 and rose to become a full professor in 2010.

Professor Ibileye joined the services of Federal University Lokoja as one of its pioneer lecturers in 2012. He has held many important academic and administrative positions in the university,  including Head of Department of English and Literary Studies,  Director, General Studies,  Director, Entrepreneurship, and Provost, College of Postgraduate Studies.  

He chairs the Committee of Provosts, Deans and Directors; a think tank committee with direct responsibility to the Vice-Chancellor. 

He was a member of the Federal University Lokoja Governing Council and was appointed as a member of the Council’s Finance and General Purpose Committee.

Professor Ibileye has published extensively and has attended learned conferences across the globe, including the United Kingdom, USA, and Canada.

Professor Ibileye has diverse academic networks across Nigeria, Africa, and the world. He serves as an external examiner to several Nigerian and African universities, including Rhodes University,  South Africa, and the University of Ghana. He has  also served as a visiting professor to many universities in Nigeria and the University of Burundi.

He is a member of many learned societies, including the prestigious Nigeria Academy of Letters, Linguistics Association of Nigeria,  Pragmatics Association of Nigeria, and English Scholars Association of Nigeria. 

He is happily married to his beautiful wife,  Monisola, and both of them are blessed with three beautiful children.
