Idah-based civil rights activist, Comrade Umar Abdullahi, has advised the Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello to beware of some of his aides who are making more enemies for him under the pretext of doing their jobs, even as he advised him to run an inclusive government in order to douse tension in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Comrade Abdullahi, had in a statement through his media aide, Adejo Emmanuel warned Governor Bello to beware of political sycophants like Abubakar Rajab, board member, National Lottery Commission, in order not to get distracted.
The statement reads in full:
“The happenings in the state in recent times call for worry if we must be sincere with ourselves. Every day, the state is treated with one form of political issue or the other.
“From security challenges to economic challenges, Kogites are asking several questions that deserve responses from government at the various levels.
“Democracy is when it is a people-driven government with its fundamental principles of freedom of expression, freedom of association, rule of law, accountability, probity and equal representation amongst others.
“I will like to advise Governor Yahaya Bello to tread cautiously so that those sycophants in, and out of government will not derail his focus, resilience and perseverance.
“He needs all the comportment, resilience, perseverance, introspection and determination to be able to take the right decisions for the good of the state”
On Abubakar Rajab, Abdullahi said: “Rajab who was one of the most vocal critic of Governor Bello on his Facebook Wall, has now turn to a praise singer because of his recent appointment as board member, National Lottery Commission.
“What has changed from then to now when be blatantly criticized the Governor in public,” Abdullahi questioned.
The activist further said, “For the records, read one of his piece on Yahaya Bello:
Government Of Yahaya Bello, Divine Or Satanic?
I personally does not know how to classify the present government of Alhaji Yahaya Bello. They look too desperate, power drunk and lack capacity to turn around the fortunes of the state.
They have refused to heed to the suggestions and advice of the experienced and elderly politicians. Alhaji Bello should know that this mandate does not fall from heaven, it is our collective mandate though you were already baptized with the spirit of  “I am for nobody but for everybody ” this is exactly what you are practicalizing. You don’t give a damn about the electorate who suffered for the mandate just because the principal and the original owner of the mandate is dead. God is watching and posterity will judge all of us.
Rather than carrying out a genuine reconciliation with the APC leaders you are busy forming a none workable institution called Bello Coordinators. No reasonable and responsible man will take these characters serious. We see them as conscienceless human beings and traitors to their heritage.
Alhaji Yahaya Bello, take it or leave it, you can never acquire the expected acceptance in Kogi state until genuine reconciliation is carried out.
Because you have refused to tap from the wisdom and experience of the elders you have found yourself in this mess. The entire state is in disarray despite the huge income at your disposition. Both the dead and the living are crying on your head. Curses from the oppressed and less privileged personalities on your head on daily basis. Are you not afraid that one day you will leave power and these same people undergoing this pains will now be your friends and neighbors? How will you feel then? Can’t you make references to your predecessors?
Your Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, your government is bad, it is regrettable, the foundation is bad. Please, do focus on the business of governance rather subjecting yourself to a premature campaign strategy which will not see the light of the day because of your defiance to certain political norms.
Have mercy on the people of kogi state. If you continue to suffer them like this and in the end you decide to build gold mansion for them, wallahi nobody will appreciate it. If you like build roads, houses and electricity and make the people of the state go hungry, all your efforts will not be appreciated. All these amenities serves us and we need to be strong and comfortable in order to enjoy the services of those amenities.
I heard the rumor of you sacking about 29,000 workers. Whoever gave you this advice does not love you. This is inhuman, satanic and unacceptable. There is no reason for such action.
Your Excellency, the people of Kogi state still see your government as none existence in terms of business of governance and policy implementation. Too much display of immaturity in your government. Please, retract and make amend for the betterment of our dear state.
May God Almighty touch your minds to do the needful. Amin.
