An activist, Comrade Idris Miliki Abdul has called on Kogi state government to account for the continued disappearance of streetlights in Lokoja.

In a statement issued in Lokoja on Tuesday, the Executive Director of Conscience for Human Rights and Conflict Resolution (CHRCR) noted that the streetlights adorning some streets in Lokoja have been removed and yet to be returned or replaced after several months.

He added that aside its aesthetics value, streetlights enhance security.

“Where is our street lights in Lokoja? Street lights anywhere are for beautification, safety and security. We are wondering what problem is associated with the street lights in Lokoja which were inherited by the current governor and government in Kogi state.

“It is worrisome that several months of after our streetlights disappeared, no official has found it necessary to offer explanation to the people of Kogi state.

“Regrettably, even the few ones fixed along NTA round about and Kogi Hotel were removed completely about 7:30pm on the March 8, 2022,” he said.

Miliki challenged the State Commissioner for Works to explain to the people of the state the rationale behind the removal of the street lights in Lokoja without fixing them after several months.
