Festivals are an irresistible part of Idah Local Government Area in Kogi State. They are a celebration of tradition and the ways of life of the many different communities.
Celebrations and dances are an integral part of our customs and traditions—nowhere else in Kogi state will you find such rich diversity.
Every ritual and dance communicates and teaches something important. These festivals help to reinforce the values that keep our communities together and proudly celebrate their identity.
It is generally staged when the waters of the river are at high tide. During the height of the rainy season (between the months of September & October) when the rivers are swollen, the brightly ornamented boats floating against the background of rich green foliage are an awesome spectacle.
The people from Aboko Ebije mark their various conquests in tribal wars in the ancient times by celebrating this boat Regatta once a year. The event has rightfully become Kogi’s strongest tourism brand.
It’s not the right policy to throw away our traditions. People are beginning to see that canoe sailing is something very valuable.
Conclusion
The Aboko Ebije signifies, not only the cultural identity of the people , but also their socio-economic identity. The festival has placed the people on the tourism map with great potentials for attracting both local and foreign investors.  There is no gainsaying the fact that if these potentials are properly harnessed and organized by the state and federal government, Boat Regatta will boost the state economy and enhance national development.
