The life of Kogi workers and pensioners are in the hands of God and the Union. What affects the Primary school teachers and Pensioners has a direct bearing on the performance of the Union called NUT, Nigeria Union of Teachers.
To those who do not know me or who are feigning ignorance because of their selfish and parochial dispositions that are negative to the welfare of teachers, pensioners and workers, I wish to let them know that I am a critical stakeholder in the Union. I served as Branch Secretary, Branch Chairman, Okun Bloc secretary, Okun Bloc Chairman, and above all, I served as Western/Central Bloc Chairman with Comrade Godfrey M. Omeiza III as the Secretary. To God be the glory.
In the political platform, I served as Supervisor for Education and Special Adviser on Education. So I must not keep quiet or look at the Union as a novice or unconcerned citizen.
State and Branch Elections
I have cordial relationship with some serving and retired unionists and teachers. These sets of teachers are concerned at the way the next set of officers will emerge. Imposition of candidates is not a tradition of the Union.
Feelers are sensing the movement of some people trying to impose some candidates. At this crucial time of workers agony and penury, one expects the best candidates to emerge by the wish of the ordinary teacher.
We must not allude to the Yagba adage that says ” When edible food is finished, we eat trashes”. Teachers still have viable hands that can fight for the rights of others. That can stand tall to demand for their rights. That can steal nothing that belong to the Commonwealth. Elderly teachers are still on ground. I am one of them.
We are mobilising to see to the smooth conduct of those elections devoid of political, religious and tribal interference.
I want to remind our officers, serving and aspiring, that NOBODY can cheat teachers and go free. We have on record those who served the state and their memories are still fresh and sweet. Comrades like Okuku, my mentor, Emmanuel Enemona Omattah, Owotogbe of blessed memory, Ojanaun of blessed memory, etc. At the branches, we have those who laid good legacies that can never be forgotten. So why do we strive to attain office for monetary gains only to die and take nothing to heaven?
God bless Kogi state, God bless NUT. God bless our suffering Teachers.
– Comrade (Honorable) Elesho Joseph
