A social media critic, Samuel Temibi has expressed concern over the perpetual seizure of civil servant’s salary by Governor Yahaya Bello APC-led Kogi state government.
Speaking to newsmen after the Okun Development Association (ODA) interactive session in Kabba, Temibi stated that Kogi state government has “rendered the lives of civil servants worthless and it has successfully ensnared them in a shackles of poverty and untold hardship.”
“The irresponsibility and incompetency of Gov. Bello will nail the coffin of his political career next year when Kogites will wave a good-bye hands at him.
“Kogi state governor has not been sincere with her civil servants over the years. Few weeks ago, I went to a PTA meeting where I raised the issue pertaining the battered infrastructural condition of the school and the low quantity of teachers in the school, the principal of the school quickly rose up and explained how the school is not given any attention by Kogi state government. The principal, in a pathetic mood, said at the meeting that he could not recollect when last he received his monthly salary from the state government, likewise his staff. He said he and his staff are just coming to the school because of the passion they have for teaching and the love they have developed for the school children. He narrated how new staff were not appointed and how the few staff they had were retrenched.
“Early this month, Governor Bello receive the sum of N13.5billion Paris club refund and 6billion statutory allocation from the federal government yet it failed to pay full salary of the civil servants. The government claimed it has set aside N10billion to clear 4months arrears but it was shocking when we heard that the governor had order for table payment, a method which has denied most of the civil servants from getting their monthly salary.
“Where do you expect a civil servant who is feeding on his farm products to secure transport fare to convey him/herself to the place where the table payment is been conducted? It is quite unfortunate that Governor Bello has deliberately tortured the civil servants by not paying them their entitlements. This is inexplicable. The Governor cannot explain a situation where he got 13.5billion and 6billion respectively yet it cannot pay salary, can he explain this? Hell NO!
“We are aware that the Governor is keeping the monies meant to pay salary for the 2019 general elections. Let me use this medium to tell him that he will fail woefully. We have enlightened our people, they know that when it is time for election, the Governor will entice them with monies and they will collect the money and vote against him. The Governor should not think any magic will happen next year, he should pay salary and take good proper care of the civil servants. It is then he can think of winning 2019 election but if otherwise, the civil servants will show him the way out next year,” he said.
Temibi advised Kogi state government to take proactive steps toward resuscitating the already crumbled educational system in the state.
He noted that some of the secondary and primary schools in the state have low quantity of teachers as some of the subjects in the schools are left unattended to while a teacher takes more than three subjects at once.
He also advised the Government to provide an enabling and conducive environment for the students and teachers as some of the schools have no educational facility to run a quality educational system.
