As Nigeria approaches another era in her political history and aspirants (both the good, the bad and even the ugly) buckles to wrestle power, it is apparently ripe to dissect between aspirations and aspirants so as to ensconce our cravings. Needless to say that change’s constant-ability is politically impactful, but without social and economic consciousness.
Moreover, Kogi Eastern Senatorial districts have been sidelined legislatively, as legal tussles thrives continuously to the detriment of common will. But the good news is, the people have ascended beyond slumbers and are confronting the menace through active participation in political processes.
Intrinsically, some basic necessities of life that justifies good governance are;
1. Security: security of live and property of the people is pre-eminent to their existence. What distinguishes a leader from his coeval is in the ability to keep abreast with security architectures in domain.
For umpteenth time, Kogi east, in fact the state at large had witnessed unprecedented upheavals such as, Herdsmen attacks, thuggery, kidnapping and worst of all, the living standard of the people. Besides, It’s only in Kogi state that;
Over N260 million will be spent on security vote yet, security appraisal passes a vote of no confidence.
A public holiday would be declared to celebrate Mr. President who just returned from a medical trip abroad.
It’s only in Kogi state that tax payers’ money would be squandered on trips to welcome the president’s son who survived an accident as well as shuttles to have a presidential handshake, perform ablution/Wudu and to bomb presidential critics.
It’s only in Kogi state that, payment of workers’ salaries would be hijacked politically with selfish intents to favor the few.
It’s only in Kogi state that reaching becomes an investment structures that will boost economy.
It’s only in Kogi state that all expenses would be paid from the treasury to sponsor cronies on festivities and jamborees abroad while workers gnash teeth in misery and despair.
Lest I forget, we have a governor who is nick-named ‘Aso Rock protocol’
2. Social Welfare: absence of visionary leadership had crippled the social welfare of the masses. For instance, the basic social amenities such as good road, health care, electricity, schools and good water system that makes like meaningful is visually lacking. Even though several politicians have won elections with such manifestos, song never changed. Take a trip round the confluence city and you will be shocked that;
A borehole will be drilled for two years and will be meant to serve communities.
You will be shocked that one local government is equal to one transformer (That is if they are lucky to have electricity polls mounted around).
You will be shocked that a kilometer of road will take two years to be completed. That is, if the contracts is award to an existing contractors along side and instructions that it be executed.
You will be shocked that, contracts are awarded to fictitious firms without an open bidding as stipulated by the public procurement acts. As a matter of fact, a governor just lampooned his counterpart over his inability to construct a flyover in Kogi state after three years of reign.
Unity:Â Unity is the greatest force that drives ambition. As a people we must leverage on an inexhaustible force of unity to achieve a common will. As leaders, team works remains the greatest facilitator of progress and achievement. As a society, we must unite against ethnic and moral misconceptions that leads to violence. However, pride and floated ego had created insignificant differences among us. Government is strict with political interest rather than affairs of governance. Thus, footing inconsequential political gimmickry among voters in order to have their ways. Ideally, the choice of leaders is the sole responsibility of the masses in a right Democratic atmosphere through careful and well thought out manifestos. But reverse is the case in our dear state perhaps, Nigeria at large where quests for office of governance is a do or die affairs. Political permutations, sycophancy and shenanigans has ravaged the system, thereby luring the masses into a dilemmatic circumstances of inability to distinguish between the future and the crumbs of comfort before them.
Having watched helplessly as our loved ones are been maimed daily and thousands displaced from their abode (insecurity), and having been starved of life’s basic amenities (social welfare), with abridged gaps between leaders and their followers. It becomes imperative that these excesses must come to a halt through quality legislative outputs that would strip our leaders off the spree of constitutional rights providing fences to their atrocities.
Therefore, the apposite question is; who should REPRESENT Kogi east on this sacred mission between Dr Victor Alewo Adoji and Jibril Isah Echocho? Well, it’s left for Kogites to ponder on. However, i suggest that we take into cognisance, the saying that ‘dreams are the dress rehearsals of the future’ to review the political and social profiles of the above personalities.
Mr. Jibril Isah Echocho; A two times governorship hopeful and a Senatorial aspirant for Kogi east 2019. As usual, the former banker is not exceptional of the shallow-rooted primitive philanthropic thesis as the basis for accessing a meaningful leadership in an individual. But his philanthropic gesture has created a negative posture on Kogites as mindless extortionists. One of his supporters wrote and I quote “Echocho need help because Kogites ran him down.”
Furtherance to the assertion above, Echocho’s current political dimension is quite worrisome. His alliance with a government that had so far proved it’s biased and low profiled leadership stamina sends a strong signal of the doom days ahead. With political acronyms, self-interest, do or die as the bearings, not only will Kogi East be marginalised, there will be total dominance of the minority after 2019.
Moreover, facts revealed Echocho’s political blueprint does not entail our aspirations above. For instance, if Echocho thinks of the security of life and property of his people, he wouldn’t have associate himself with government that is leveraging on gun to hold power in 2019. If Echocho truly sees leadership as an opportunity to create a meaning-full life for his people, he would have distanced himself from the system where, scholarship favors only family members of the few elites and salary payment is based on selected individuals. If Echocho, in a nutshell wanted to develop both the people and the society, he would have stayed away from the government that has disunited Igalas with empty promises. A government that have colonized our socio-cultural organization, with cronies as board of trustees.
Lest I forget, somebody should convey my message to Edward Onoja as a reminder that we are in July already and ICDA is waiting for the coaster bus.
Worst still, Echocho’s political Wings have been bought over for a N100 millions. The sudden revival and politicization of the long dead Igala Cultural Development Association (ICDA). The continuous non fulfilled promises were all garnered towards canvassing support for GYB comes 2019. As a matter of fact, Echocho chaired the fictitious fund raising ceremony that sold himself and some Igalas to this government. It is very pathetic!
But let me declare prophetically that, it would be dastardly if we choose political games as succor to the current socio-economic woes. Why? Because, anything from Yahaya Bello as far am concerned can never ignore personal ambition, personal concerns perhaps, personal frustration.
Our succor lies in a well thought out plans of a politically savvy and independent, grassroot oriented candidature.
This is where we shall be reviewing Dr Victor Alewo Adoji’s political context.
Without been biased, Dr. Victor Adoji is also one of the philanthropists of our time. In fact, the nick-name ‘DESTINY HELPER’ has extinguished his original names (Victor Alewo Adoji) as Kogites from all works of life knows him as the helper of their destiny. It is also a known fact that most affluents and their philanthropic gesture nurses political ambition in the closets. Hence, the media is always awashed with every penny and services they voluntarily offered. Some even induce journalists to fine-tune those gestures.
Interestingly, despite Dr. Adoji’s selfless contributions, he has never been in the news or induce a media house to appraise his humane. Engage a hundred Kogites (Igalas) in a discussion about Adoji and three persons at most, would tell you they have not heard or benefited from him. I have never met or seen Dr Victor Alewo in person but those who have engaged him with issues related to our shores testified that he believes so much in UNITY. He has achieved immensely in these endeavors and will not hesitate to do more at a slightest given opportunity.
– Dr. Adoji’s philanthropic styles among other things had singled him out from his contemporaries. He believes and practice the biblical injunctions in Mathew 6 vs 3 which says “But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing.” Unlike some wealthy men who uses philanthropic avenue to build political profiles by concentrating such gestures within their class, Adoji gives where he can obviously get nothing in return. Thus, his political ambition is not to acquire wealth and cosmic power as opined by hoodwinks, but because the vision is clear, the needs are obvious, the reason is cogent and the hour is ripe.
– Dr Adoji believes so much in freedom been offered on a platter of gold.
– His political engagement inspires love, tolerance and compassion.
– To him, Igala nation is not predestined to the present state. So his political objective and responsibility is transformation.
– Dr Victor Alewo Adoji’s social consciousness project multifaceted in Education, empowerment, and skill acquisition is felt by everyone.
– His political ambition is driven by compassion, owing to the ignominious impact of poverty and wretchedness among his fellow Kogites, especially those in the rural areas.
– It’s also noteworthy that Dr. Adoji’s sound academic and professional excellence, personal principles rooted in fairness, justice and equity is a plus in the legislative business.
Dr. Adoji’s Senatorial aim primarily represent the people’s aspiration. As a matter of fact, the keys to our freedom from killings, thuggery, kidnapping and disunity in Igala land lies in Dr VAA’s legislative ambition. Our lost legislative glory will be restored. He will unite our sons and daughters regardless of social, financial and political differences because he believes so much in team works.
Finally, Dr Adoji’s Senatorial aspiration remains the key to our freedom from Democratic slavery, misrepresentation, economic and political quagmires. I have seen the light on the horizon with Dr VAA. Our future Igala land relies solely on the decision we make today. Therefore, a vote for Adoji is the beginning of accountability, transparency and freedom and a choice aside him means total ruination.
