While listening to the spokesperson of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kola Ologbodian in a live radio program; people’s assembly on 98.3 hot FM, Abuja, emphasizing and asking rhetorical questions that if anyone can point at a project started and completed by the present Buhari/Osinbajo’s led government? In a swift reaction, I called, drew his intention while on that radio station that the second runway of Abuja International Airport was started and completed by the present government.
My major propeller into writing this article is not just because I want to list out the projects started and completed by the present government, but, to rather commend president Muhammadu Buhari and his ever reliable Vice, Prof Yemi Osinbajo for not being egocentric; taking Nigeria first ahead of their personal and primordial interest, we are indeed proud of them.
Unlike in the past where projects that would have impacted positively on the lives of Nigerians and could have added value to the economy were abandoned by the successive governments over who takes the glory, the present leadership under the watchful eyes of President Muhammadu Buhari and Prof Yemi Osinbajo have decided to change the narrative, knowing fully well the importance of those projects to the country.
You may wish to note that the first projects completed and commissioned by President Muhammadu Buhari was the Abuja/Kaduna Rail project. No doubt, the project was started by PDP past government, but, considering its immense benefits to the country, it was speedily attended to, with new locomotive engines and many more coaches being procured by the present APC government. So many other projects that would have been tagged as abandoned projects today are seriously getting the necessary desired attention from the government. I cannot forget in the hurry the comment credited to the present Minister of Power, Works and Housing Babatunde Fashola who said that the Federal Government inherited 206 uncompleted roads from the last administration, that the contractors of most of the projects had since been mobilized to site. Fashola said his ministry was working with lean resources, adding that it was determined to do more in the interest of Nigerians. (Daily post of August 9th 2016)
Let me at this point tell Mr. Kola Ologbodiyan and his party that it will only take a man of goodwill to continue with a project that was started by another government. Has Kola forgotten that it is still fresh in our memories how the Jonathan led government abandoned the dredging of River Niger that was started by Umoru Musa Yaradua’s government; a government that he was part of? Has Kola also forgotten that Governor Yesom Wike abandoned the light Rail Project started, near completion by the Former Governor Rotimi Amaechi? These are questions begging for answers from those in the wailing community.
Furthermore, it will be a disservice to me, if I drop my pen without reflecting the damages done by projects abandonment by leaders at all levels to Kogi State University.
Reading through an article written by a medical student from Kogi State University, Anyigba, Prince Ojodale, about his plight over the non-accreditation of college of medicine. His expression fully unveiled the kind of pains, agonies and frustrations he is passing through. Here is the excerpt from his comments: “I am a kogi state university medical student. I got admitted to study medicine in 2012 and for the past 6years I have been in300level, we have been hearing stories from both the government and the school, “that we are working on it”, “we should read our books”. We have stagnated and suffered emotionally. I weep daily! The last governor of kogi state Governor Idris Wada, instead of upgrading the secondary health facility in the university village(kogi state diagnostic hospital in anyigba) to a teaching hospital he went and started his own pet project (build a new hospital from the scratch) which he didn’t complete, it’s now an abandoned project. The new Governor of the state, Governor Yahaya Bello set up a committee for accreditation of the college of medicine and for the past 4years he has been in power I tell you my reader no block has been laid, and I don’t know if I would graduate in the next 10years. Some medical students have even threatened to commit suicide because of the humiliation and frustration.
We are frustrated and our parents are in pains….
In view of the forgoing, it is pertinent for me and the well-meaning Nigerians to continue with our undiluted support for the president for always being there for the good of the country, no doubt, their patriotism has taken Nigeria a step higher among the committee of nations.
Finally, we are not unaware of the giant stride of this present leadership; is it on records that the present government did not only continue with the projects left behind as conduit pipe by the previous government, but, started others that are very germane to the progress of our dear country. Under this present government, the construction of Second Niger Bridge started; the commencement of Ogoni Clean up; the commencement and completion of Second Runway of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja; the commencements of connecting Nigeria major Cities with Rail lines; purchase of coaches and locomotive engines for Abuja/Kaduna Rail; the introduction of N-SIP, the best social safety nets in the history of Nigeria; the commencement of government anchor borrowers programme to provide funds for both old and young famers who may be interested in rice farming and other farm produce. Today, Nigeria is ranked among the first 20 largest producer of rice in the world. You may also recall that Fertilizer production commenced fully under this government to assist the farmers. I can go on and on, but let me stop here for now.
#With Buhari/Osinbajo, Nigeria is indeed on the right path to greatness.
God bless Federal Republic of Nigeria
– Yahaya Wada
