Kogi state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has said his administration, in the past 23 months has set a perfect agenda and made meaningful input in education sector that would culminate into uncommon transformation of the sector in the state.
Governor Bello stated this while declaring open the State Education Summit organised by the state Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in collaboration with the Participation Initiative for Behavioural Change in Development and Actionaid in Lokoja.
The Governor who was represented at the occasion by his Deputy, Elder Simon Achuba said his administration in its determination to strengthen the education sector, has put a lot of resources in the sector, renovated structures in some schools and equipped them to compete favourably with others in advanced countries of the world.
He described education as the light that shines on mankind, saying his investment in education would bring about more opportunities and development to the door steps of the people.
The Governor called on the relevant stakeholders to join hands with the administration in order to take the education sector and other sectors of the economy to an enviable position in the country.
He maintained that with the right education in place, a lot of societal problems would be solved for a better living.
Speaking, the Secretary to Kogi State Government, Dr. Mrs Ayoade Folashade Arike commended the administration of Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello for giving education a priority in the state, saying the government is on the right track in the reform on education.
She called on all Kogites to support the administration in its effort to take the state to the next level of development.
On his part, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Edward Onoja described the Education Summit as timely, saying education is the best legacy parents can bequeath to their children.
He said the administration of Governor Bello has performed creditably well in the state, stating that with the support of the people, more would be achieved before the end of the first tenure.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Rosemary Osikoya said the aim of the summit was to address issues affecting education in the state as well chatting a way forward in the sector.
She said the sector suffered setback in the past adding that the summit would come out with workable resolution that would improve the standard of education in the state.
He commended the Governor for providing logistics and favourable ground for the hosting of the summit, saying ” that His Excellency convenes an education summit within this week of celebration is a demonstration of his strong political will and commitment to addressing the perennial challenges of the sector”.
