A young man identified as Mohammed Suberu has reportedly died in the swimming pool of a foremost Lokoja, Kogi State hotel.
His body was said to have been found floating in the swimming pool of Idrinana Hotel, located in the Phase II area, in Lokongoma.
Suberu was said to have gone to the hotel on Monday morning to swim, only for his lifeless body to later be found floating.
The development was said to have caused pandemonium as the hotel security men and other members of the staff ran helter skelter.
The body was later taken to the State Specialist Hospital, Lokoja, where he was confirmed dead.
The atmosphere became tensed when friends and colleagues of the deceased invaded the premises of the hotel to protest Suberu’s death.
A similar event happened in Idrinana last year, when a middle aged man drowned in the hotel’s swimming pool, leading to attack of its workers and destruction of property by irate youth.
When enquiries were made of the General Manager of the hotel, Audu Alhassan, he said he could not speak on the incident until he got clearance from the chairman, a former member of the Kogi state house of assembly.
He however confirmed that the issue was being handled by the police.
The Kogi Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Kogi, William Anya, said investigation has commenced over the death of Suberu.
He said that when the friends of the deceased mobilised to attack the hotel, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) led his men to the scene to put the situation under control.
