The Kogi Government said it would establish a teaching centre in each of the 239 wards for students in secondary across the 21 Local Government Areas of the state.
Mr Deola Eseyin, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Students Affairs, Youths and Sports, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lokoja.
“The Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has graciously approved the establishment of GYB Ward Extra-Mural classes across the 21 Local Government Areas of the state.
“This initiative is aimed at empowering the students’ moral and intellectual abilities.
“GYB Ward Extra-Mural Class is established to empower youths across the state educationally, thereby creating job opportunities for those that will go into teaching profession.
“Besides, it will also keep them busy during weekends and holidays, thereby preventing them from engaging in social vices and other criminal activities,’’ Eseyin told NAN.
He said that a school in each ward would be equipped and designated as venue for the extra-moral classes, which would commence by the third week of March.
The special adviser said that trained and experienced teachers, Corps members and Volunteers would be engaged for effective teaching of the students.
He commended the governor for his political will, commitment and support for the welfare of Kogi students in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions in the state and across the federation.
Eseyin advised the students to take advantage of the opportunity by participating actively in the programme to improve their learning capacity.
