Democracy Newsline Newspaper will today, Wednesday, 19th August 2026, host its 16th Annual Public Lecture and Induction Ceremony into the Good Governance Hall of Fame at the National Merit House, Maitama, Abuja.
The flagship event, which has become a major calendar fixture for political leaders, policymakers, and civil society, is themed: “ Economic Reform and Sustainable Development in a Democracy, The Nigeria Experience”

According to the organizers, the lecture and induction are designed to recognize distinguished Nigerians who have demonstrated excellence, integrity, and commitment to people-centered leadership at federal, state, and local government levels.
Expected dignitaries include serving and former ministers, governors, lawmakers, traditional rulers, heads of security agencies, and grassroots leaders from across the 36 states and FCT.
Speaking ahead of the event, the Publisher of Democracy Newsline Newspaper, Chief Olugbemi Femi said the platform was created to promote accountability, celebrate service, and document role models in governance.
“Over the last 16 years, we have used this lecture to challenge leaders to do more for the people and to honor those who have made democracy work at the grassroots. Today’s inductees represent the best of public service and sacrifice,” he stated.
Highlights of the event include a keynote address by a renowned scholar on democratic governance, panel discussions on institutional reforms, and the formal induction of outstanding public office holders, technocrats, and community leaders into the Democracy Newsline Good Governance Hall of Fame.

Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, PhD, mni – Commandant General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps
Hon Salman Idris, Member representing Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency, House of Representatives
Hon. Dr. Dare Joshua Monday Venza – Executive Chairman, Yagba East LGA, Kogi State
The ceremony will hold at the Banquet Hall of the National Merit House Maitama, Abuja and it will commence at 5pm with goodwill messages from development partners, civil society groups, and representatives of government.
Observers say the event will further deepen conversations on transparency, service delivery, and the role of the media in sustaining Nigeria’s democracy.
